A useful meeting does not require a perfect script. A short list of questions can help you understand the discussion and leave with clear next steps. Choose the prompts that fit your situation.
- What strengths and interests should guide this plan?
- What information or observations support the concern being discussed?
- What additional evaluation or information is being considered, and why?
- How will the proposed support help with participation, learning, or access?
- How will progress or effectiveness be monitored?
- Who should I contact if a question comes up after the meeting?
- What options did the team consider?
- What does this unfamiliar term mean in plain language?
- What is the next step, who is responsible, and when should we reconnect?
- Where can I review the applicable procedural safeguards and current state guidance?
Prepare a one-page note
Write down your top concerns, the questions you most want answered, and any relevant examples. You can ask for a pause or clarification during the conversation. If you need an interpreter or another access support, ask the school about arrangements in advance.
